Standing on God’s Promises

I know so many of my friends and almost everyone in our Victory Greenhills staff is pregnant, so I wanted to write this post as an encouragement and reminder to them, and to you!

Here are some of the verses I meditated on, most especially as labor day drew near:

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. DO NOT FEAR or be in dread of them (or of labor!), FOR IT IS THE LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

My part: Be strong and courageous. Do not fear. Do not be in dread.

God’s promise: He will go with me. He will not leave me or forsake me.

Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.”

My part: Cast my burdens on God

God’s promise: He will sustain me

Psalm 29:11 “The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.”

God’s promise: Strength and peace to His people

Psalm 56: 3-4 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”

My part: Put my trust in God. Do not be afraid.

God’s promise: Deliverance from the flesh.

Psalm 118: 23-24 “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

My part: (Again, God dealt with my heart regarding the dread I felt!) Rejoice and be glad. Acknowledge that this is the Lord’s doing!

God’s promise: It will be marvelous!

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in PERFECT PEACE whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

My part: Focus on God. Trust Him.

God’s promise: He will keep me in perfect peace.

Isaiah 40:11 “He will carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.”

God’s promise: He will carry me and gently lead me

Isaiah 40:29-31 “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

My part: Wait for the Lord

God’s promise: He will give power when I am faint. He will increase my strength when I have no might. He will renew my strength. He will make sure that I can run and not grow weary, walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

My part: Fear not. Do not be dismayed.

God’s promise: “I will be with you. I am with you. I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you.”

Isaiah 65: 23-24 “They will not toil/labor in vain or bear children for calamity, for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord, and their descendants with them…”

God’s promise: I will not labor in vain.

Lamentations 3:22-24 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.'”

God’s promise: His steadfast love, fresh mercies every day

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

My part: Go to God

God’s promise: He will give me rest.

Matthew 14:27 “Jesus spoke to them at once. ‘Do not be afraid,’ He said. ‘Take courage. I AM HERE!'”

My part: Do not be afraid. Take courage.

God’s promise: I am here.

2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

My part: draw near to the throne of grace with confidence

God’s promise: Mercy and grace to help in time of need

Hebrews 10: 22-23 “Let us draw near with a true heart in FULL ASSURANCE OF FAITH, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”

Hebrews 10:35-36 “Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what was promised.”

1 Samuel 1:27 “For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to Him.”

This was God’s ultimate reminder as I prepared for Samuel’s birth. Samuel was His idea and His gift. I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me my request.

I pray that whatever it is you are going through– it may be far from the context of labor or birth– whatever it is…may you find strength and comfort and assurance in God’s word. May you be reminded that in all circumstances and at all times, God is with you. And He is telling you right now,Take courage. I am here!”  May this truth be more than enough to give you the courage and strength you need. God is with you.

If you are having trouble in your marriage, Take courage. I am here!”

If you are second guessing how you are parenting your children, Take courage. I am here!”

If you are overwhelmed with work or homeschool, Take courage. I am here!”

If everything in life now pretty much seems like one big storm, Take courage. I am here!”

Whatever it is….be reminded of God’s promises. He is with you. That is enough reason for you to take courage. 🙂
