Philips Avent’s From Pregnancy to Playground

I got to attend Philips Avent’s “From Pregnancy to Playground” event for moms and their babies last Saturday at Shangri-la Mall.

The event featured a variety of activities that celebrate the different stages of motherhood— from pregnancy to having a newborn, to nurturing a growing baby.

What I enjoyed most about the event were the short talks given by experts in their respective fields.

I’d like to share with you the five main points I got from Philips Avent Brand Ambassador, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan.

1. People are more important than things.

This one’s something we hear often, and something we really would like to live by. The reality, however, is that this is easier said than done. I think we need to be reminded of this at every waking moment, especially if we have toddlers in our home!

2. Purpose

If we are to parent and guide our children well, we need to be able to identify their purpose. Just like everything else that exists in this world, the best person who knows the purpose of a particular product is the one who designed and crafted it. In the same way, if we want to know the purpose of our lives, and the lives of our children, we need to go back to our Maker.

3. Play

Play, play, play. Play with your children. Play what THEY want to play, not the other way around.

 4. Present

Today is important because it is God’s gift. We cannot do anything about the past, and we do not know what the future brings. What we do have, and what we are capable of living and maximizing is the NOW—the present. Enjoy the present.  Live life to the fullest everyday.

5. Prayer

If there’s one thing I’ve realized since becoming a parent, it is that no matter how hard I try, I cannot do this on my own strength. If I am to value my children the way God wants me to, then I need to tap into His strength and wisdom, His love and power, His grace and faithfulness.

If there’s one thing I’m grateful for, it is that I know that the purposes and the destinies of my children are not left to chance. Their lives are not at the mercy of circumstances, nor are they at the mercy of the parenting skills of their flawed parents (ahem…that’s me and hubby). Rather, they are covered with the all-sufficient grace of their Maker, our Heavenly Father, who loves them unconditionally. 🙂
